Digital technology is not a destination, but merely a bridge. The capacity for empathy remains the only “moat”—an impregnable barrier—that AI can never cross. Future competence hinges not on how skillfully one operates machines, but on how deeply one understands the hearts of others.

① The Symptom: The Empire of Silent Rooms

Walk into a high school hallway or a suburban living room, and you will witness a new kind of silence. Adolescents today live as “Digital Hermits.” They communicate via text to avoid the “inefficiency” of voice; they play games with strangers across the globe while sitting in total isolation; and they find more comfort in an AI companion’s unwavering validation than in a friend’s messy reality. The immediate symptom is a coldness in interaction—a high level of self-forgiveness combined with a chilling indifference toward others. In their world, social interaction is no longer a biological necessity, but a resource-heavy chore to be optimized away.

② The Analysis: The Erasure of Social Friction

Empathy is a muscle, and muscles require resistance to grow. Modern digital life has removed all “Social Friction.” When interaction is mediated through screens, we lose the “biological mirroring” of eye contact, micro-expressions, and physical breath.
